Excellent slow speed performance, but.....

Excellent slow speed performance and nice quality of design. Problem is that it emits a high pitched whirring sound at all but the slowest speeds. Furthermore the lights flicker at slow speeds despite cleaning tracks & wheels. Also interior lights only turn on at a somewhat higher speed setting than exterior lights. In order to get the interior lights to turn on a higher speed is needed but then it emits the annoying high pitched whirring. I must point out that flickering lights at low speed and a high pitched whirring sound at higher speeds are not a problem with my Bachmann Peter Witt trolley.

Great early impressions.

Runs very well and quiet in DC mode. Don't have a DCC controller so can't comment on DCC performance. I also have a Kato Portram trolley which I purchased prior to this unit. I like the Bachmann unit better. The light turns on even at low speed unlike the Kato which must be operated at a higher speed to get the lights to turn on. Also the lighting does not flicker at low power(speed) as it does on the Kato. Finally it runs very quietly and is totally unobtrusive in my living room running it while watching tv. The Kato is noisy at all but slowest speeds and definitely interferes while watching TV at any speed above the slowest with a high pitched whirring sound.
