KitchenAid is good choice for first stick blender.
Full size stick blender with removable shaft that locks in place by twisting to lock or unlock. Two speed buttons with separate pulse button that you have to press and hold to operate. Easy to clean shaft piece with the blade. Nice brush steel look.
