When do you need this 29X4 332LL Needle as opposed to a 332LR Needle or the 29X3 332?
If you have a leather patching machine like the Singer 29 series, then you must use either a 29X3 or 29X4 Needle. It has the correct length to match the machine's timing, and is also an appropriately sturdy Needle. The 332LL Needle is designed to cut an angled slit as opposed to a round hole like a regular Needle. This allows your thread to nestle down into the leather a bit more flush than with a regular Needle. The 332LR cuts a slit at the opposite angle for an opposite effect - making your thread lay on top of the leather, like you sometimes see in a decorative stitch. Some people use a regular 332 fabric Needle for both fabric and the occasional leather work - it's not like the leather will be damaged if you don't use a leather Needle. Hope this helps.

Don't even try to get by with your old one.
If your old one is getting hard or developing cracks, get a replacement. Proper tension on winding the Bobbin is pretty important, and these replacement rings work perfectly. If there is any downside at all, it is that I ordered two but will likely never need the second one..

Works great and a good value.
I was a little antsy about ordering form China, but the product quality is great. It can take several shaves for new blades to seat properly, but these worked fine for me right out of the box. Note that If you have problems with blades cutting a tough beard well, keep the blades fanatically clean, and always keep each rotary blade paired its own cover. If you get any longer hairs tangled up in there, it can affect cutting performance drastically as well.
