MY Top PIck
In the large and very diverse line up of HP laptops I must say the Probook series is my choice for top of the list.Even though I believe they were designed as mid-grade business machines - these laptops have proven to be very reliable & versatile workhorses. Almost as important to me is the ease of repair. I love the way these assemble. Having the cpu, memory and most replaceable components on top of the board makes much more sense to me as long it has adequate cooling which these seem to have. Upgrades and custom modifications are fairly easy and options are plentiful.I only recomend the models with ATI graphics. I have the 4520s with an Intel core i5 upgrade and the 4525s upgraded to an AMD Phenom 3.0 CPU. Both have 8GB RAM and have been beat on almost daily for last few years. They are a little worn on the edges and beginning to show signs of getting tired but still going strong. I like the keyboards and the over-all look and feel of the case. If I had to complain it would be the that the sheet metal is too thin making it far too easy to dent the tops. I've dropped them a few times but never broken a screen on one so the tops are not too weak, just easily dented. I once thought the new touchpads were odd but after wearing through one out I learned it was easy to replace so now I like it. Rub on it for at least 8 hours everyday for over four years and you will probably wear through just about anything! I feel the design quality has dimished only slightly in the 4530s and 40s generations that followed after this one. My main gripe? I wish they had kept the keyboard the same as the 4520s models HP almost made up for that eith the single bottom cover plate on the newer ones. Almost- but it could have been designed better too.

Rugged and Reliable
1 of 1 found this helpful You can easily expect to have more problems with Windows software than with the hardware in this notebook. Not a difficult one to work on either.
