*REDUCED* SIGMA 180mm F2.8 APO Macro EX DG OS HSM lens Sony fit
14 September 2017
Sigma 180mm f2.8 Macro v Sony 70-200mm f2.8
I bought the Sigma to replace a 50mm Minota Marco and a 90mm Tamron Macro as I wanted to try Macro of insects etc from a greater distance and also to "Isolate" subjects more.... I also was keen to see how this performed against my Sony 70-200mm at f2.8.
Very impressed, the build quality of the Sigma was far better than I imagined, the images excellent and it's ergonomics better in manual focus than the Sony. I have added some test with the Sigma and the Sigma 2x APO converter [the only on I would use on this lens, any others tested were no up to the job] Which gives images I can hardly tell apart from just the lens. However the converter does not AF with the 180mm lens - Something that is explained in Sigma's matrix of compatibility but was still disapointing. At 180mm I think this produces images about as good as the Sony so a useful lens as I mainly use the Sony at it's far end... However when I use the Sony 2x converter it has the edge on quality and it's AF!

Pentax 6x7 a unique product with limited edition styling
I purchased an original Non- Mirror Lock Up version which needed major clean up as it had been shipped in the original case, which had perished and covered everything with fine sticky dust. The camera is heavy even by medium format standards and though simple does need to be understood.
The mechanisms are extremely well engineered and precise, the flash synchronisation is only 1/30th. However the negatives are huge and well worth the extra effort. Be aware if you EVER use this you will be hooked. Google minolta4me-kevin for photos or this restoration and limited edition style refurbishment

Metabones Contax G Lens to Sony NEX E-Mount Adapter
22 March 2018
Metabones Contax G2 lens to Sony Nex body
Hi, I was lucky enough to get a Contax G2 Millennium cased set, everything mint but before I tried it with film I wanted to test the lenses on digital. I had no real desire for an autofocus adapter so opted for the Metabones manual focus adapter. The build quality was excellent but any adapter is not going to be as well made as the Contax itself. Most of the complaints about ANY Contax adapter are about the fit and assembly. This is not the fault in the main of the adapter but is a result of the Contax G series lens mounting itself. It's difficult, especially with the smaller wide angle lenses to grip JUST the fixed mounting ring and not accidentally be holding the lens itself.
I have done real world "tests" but can not get as enthusiastic, as many Contax fans do, over the Contax sharpness etc... My bog standard Nex zoom seems to produce images as good and no fussing.
