GOODBYE DARKNESS A Memoir Of The Pacific War Book By William Manchester

World War II in the Pacific Island as a grunt Marine
Well, first let me say that this book can be very difficult to read. Manchester spares the reader no details, however gory, about war and the specific horrors that it inflicts on the human body. That said, from my point of view, it only made my experience that much more moving to retrace with him, some 35 years later, his journey with the Marine Corps as they spearheaded the island hopping campaign in the Pacific. Honest, open, this book tells the story of a sensitive teenager forced to deal with the harsh realities of two world wars: the first that shaped his father and Manchester's family as he grew up and later the second as the upside down world around him crumbled into chaos and changed both his soul and his psyche. As American as a tale can get, this book contains many moving stories, as seen then through his eyes, including the nausea he felt at seeing how the 'modern' post war world had transformed almost all of the the killing grounds on the various islands that he and his comrades fought so fiercely over with just as fiercely a Japanese Army determined to hold at any cost. In closing I will just say that this book is a permanent fixture in my personal library and one that I have read twice, the second reading even more emotional than the first. A fabulous book by a incredibly talented author.

Keyboard replacement for Acer Aspire laptop
Well, the keyboard on my Acer quit suddenly, talked with my brother, the go to computer expert, and he gave me the heads up.. said his laptop keyboard gave up the ghost and he went online (ebay) and found a replacement... also said it was drop dead easy to install... his only warning was to be sure to specify the exact maker and model of the laptop when ordering... I did my due diligence, found one for sale on eBay and purchased it. After carefully removing the 'dead' keyboard I installed the new one and it was all good. Blue skies from now on... the laptop works just as well as it did before, this is a great way to resurrect what appears to be an inoperable and unsalvageable (?) computer. Thanks to the eBay seller, Acer for replacement parts availability, my brother (of course) and YT for the installation videos I watched prior to attempting to operate. Win Win Win!!
