VINTAGE WHITAKER SUPRONIC 562R RESISTOR SPARK PLUG WIRE SET 8 CYL CUSTOM NEW BOX
    23 June 2017
Excellent Wires. Unknown but great. Read on ...
I'm a lifetime car guy and the best and wisest mechanic I've ever known introduced me to Whitaker wires in the mid 70's. He claimed they were extremely well designed and made, would increase mileage and performamce, and last a long time. I can attest to all of that - although, in all cases, performamce increase was just a notable seat-of-the-pants thing. For some reason they weren't well known in their day, and even less-so today, but they are great wires. I've used them on three Chevys; a hot 327,  a warm 350, and a stock 350. Also, two Ford 390's; one stock and one warmed up a bit. The stock 390 has had the same set of Whitakers on it for close to 40 years, and the truck sat unused for nearly 20 years. I was quite anal with all my vehicle records back then, and prior to installing them I measured and recorded  the resistance of each wire. When I finally woke the truck up a few years ago, I checked the resistance against those old log notes and there was no difference. The same wires are on the truck to this day and still look excellent - no insulation issues at all - and perform just great. The second 390 is in a classic muscle car that I purchased over 15 years ago. After six months of driving it and recording performance, I changed to a set of brand new Whitaker wires that I had purchased in the mid 70's. I recorded an average mileage increase of about a mile per gallon and a noteable performance increase - the Whitaker wires were the only change. The same wires are on the car today and they look and perform as new. I can't say, in all cases, what brand of wires the Whitakers replaced but the two 350's and one 390 were factory stock, and both 350 stock wires were less than a year old. The Ford FE engines, of which the 390 is one, have a firing order which lights cylinders 7 and 8 in succession and the cylinders are next to each other, so wire crossfire can be an issue that I've diagnosed on numerous FE engines. In my experience, Whitaker wires have never exibited crossfire. On both the hot 327 and the warm 390, I experimented with other high grade wires and happily returned to the Whitakers. Also, both 390's and one 350 use/used Pertronix ignitions, and the 327 had a Mallory. All with copper contact caps and rotors. Never aluminum! The 7mm wire diameter and black color make for a nice stock look in classics, and they are great performing wires. In addition to my experience, a number of friends that I recommended Whitaker wires to were all quite happy they made the change. In that group was a Mopar 318, two Chevy small blocks, a Ford 289, and a Ford 351 Windsor. If you can find them, I'm sure they'll look and perform great on your engine as well.
Yellow Jacket & Wasp Trap #1 Trap on the Market by Pherotech
    22 June 2017
    Not a good product!!
If I could give zero stars, I would! What junk! Do Not waste your money on these Pherotech traps! How they were rated as the #1 trap is a mystery to me. If you want traps that REALLY work and need extremely minor maintenance, compared to these terrible products, buy Rescue yellowjacket traps. I have successfully used Rescue traps previously but thought I would try these for a comparison. That was a poor decision - a complete waste of money and time! But now I know, read on. This report covers a time period that began around the beginning of April and ended on the first day of summer (although all traps will remain in use until winter). On a 2 acre section of an old farm that has plenty of places that yellowjackets like to live, thus some bad past infestations and painful encounters, I placed two of these and two of the Rescue traps. All directions for both were carefully followed, except for the prescribed number of traps for the area, which called for more. In that regard, traps were placed in two notoriously bad areas. About a month before summer arrived, I quit counting the queens attracted into the two Rescue traps when I reached 100. Yes, they were all, undoubtedly, queens - they are huge (~3/4"& ). In the same period of time, and placed within 20 feet of the Rescue traps, these junk traps attracted a total of 4 yellowjacket queens, 1 wasp, and a number of spiders and small insects. I even traded locations with the traps so that they spent equal time in each place. I kept all traps maintained as directed. I checked all traps, again, on the first day of summer and each of the two Rescue traps easily contained over 30 queens (an estimate based on previous emptying), while these junk traps were still stuck on 4 queens and miscellaneous bugs. So, in the spring of one year, I know for sure that the Rescue traps outworked these high maintenance pieces of junk by a factor of over 40 to 1 (well over 160 yellowjacket queens in 2 Rescue traps compared to a mere total of 4 in these two junk Pherotech traps). So, from my experience, if you really want to trap yellowjackets, do Not waste your money and time on these traps!
