A Brilliant film with an exceptional soundtrack
A movie classic with South America's landscapes and her people as the background tapestry on which the story of Che Guevara unfolds. The musical score for this movie is alone worth the price of admission and should be appreciated on its own terms. The camera work in this picture is well conceived like beautiful paintings; black and white portraits each worthy, each standing on the merits of the beauty and mystery that they conjure in the viewer.

Stark, Austere Genius
Sam Shepard's hand in the writing of this movie is evident from the beginning and the voice of Samuel Beckett (Shepard's nemesis) comes throughout with stark, austere landscapes the viewer inhabits; characters that unfold personal confidences and their complex histories with reluctance. Every line, every camera angle, every landscape, scene, color palette, character portrait and texture unfolds with purpose complemented with a sound track delivered with impeccable craft, sensitivity and genius. Cinematography in this movie and use of the camera often evokes rich surreal colorist paintings of the southwest by Bob Dylan. People either love this movie, or they hate it. This is not a movie for people who want to be "entertained." It is a movie for people who appreciate story telling, character depth, craft and genius delivered on every level by the actors and its creators! Harry Dean Stanton should have received an Academy Award for his role. Definitely among my top 25 movies of all time! 9.5/10.
