Good for a beginner's introductory phone.
After upgrading the phone's OS to 2.2.2 (The latest and last version available to it, the product is EOL'd by Verizon), it's a decent entry-level phone.
I mainly got this phone as a standalone music player through bluetooth, and it works just as well. Since I'm not planning on activating it with Verizon, I cannot vouch for the coverage or signal, but inside my house (Where I average about 1 bar on my current carrier), I usually have at least 2 ;) .
The Ticker bar at the bottom is a little unusual, and completely dependent on the idea that you need constant and instant access to your social networks, and on modern phones the equivalent would be widgets on the homescreen.
Overall, for a beginner's phone, this would be very suitable for an introduction to the world of smartphones.

Interesting toy
1 of 1 found this helpful It is as it appears. The mobile-phone style keyboard is quite unwieldy, it takes quite some practice to use with any amount of effectiveness due to the keys being very uniform and lacking any differentiation between one key and the next (for example, on a standard keyboard the F and J keys usually have a bump).
The model I purchased was the one with a 600 MHz processor. It was fast enough to play media sized correctly, however anything with a higher definition than 480p (on youtube for example) had enough lag between frames that watching videos in that mode was not very pleasant at all.
However, the processor is more than fast enough to do other on-the-go tasks, such as editing a word document, listening to music, or general web browsing.
Since I bought a used unit, the battery life was less than optimal. However even so said, the unit regularly lasted at least two hours on a single charge. Having an extra battery for a roadtrip would be a good idea.
Unfortunately, the hard drive that was installed on the unit (I had to replace the existing one due to bad sectors) is not very high-performance either. Even though the interface was PATA, I was only able to achieve throughput values equivalent to a USB flash drive, which makes the OS seem that much slower overall.

Works Great!
For what it is, this drive does what it says.
I primarily purchased this unit for usage in my XBox 260 console, and it worked just fine after it was formatted correctly. No complaints at all here.
